Failed

Well the Millennium Hotels photography contest has closed and finalists chosen.

Each entrant was permitted to submit 3 photographs for the competition and the finalists have been chosen.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed about not being chosen but the good thing is that the competition produced some outstanding photography.

The basis of the competition was "What Makes Britain Beautiful" and the high standard of entrants was great to see.

Congratulations to the finalists

I must confess that the opportunities were vast when it came to choosing what I entered. I will look back in the future and wonder if I could have chosen better work. The £5000 worth of camera gear offered as a prize would have been pretty damn cool.

I spent about a month deciding what I would choose for my entry. I pondered setting up shoots just for the competition and I went to Blackpool Illuminations for the first of my planned shots.

Considering I'm a Lancashire guy from birth I thought the Tower and Pier and Lights would be something I will look on with fondness so I shot this scene from Central Pier...

It was simply an accident that whilst at Blackpool I shot my second entry that I thought encapsulated the perfect moment for a beach scene, again at Blackpool. It was the mixture of light, sea and activity that worked for me...

The third entry was nothing skilful or challenging. It was a moment I was passing on my motorcycle whilst carrying my compact camera. I just had to stop and take the picture which just spoke to me about those lazy summer days in Britain. I chose it, I failed. What can I say? Pictures are a subjective thing in the end =)
